How it works

How to settle what's for dinner, step by step

Here's one vote, a family of five deciding tonight's dinner, screen by screen.

  1. The Choices screen with Dinner selected, Tacos, Spaghetti and Stir Fry added, and more meals suggested below.

    1Step 1 of 6

    Add tonight's options

Tap What's for Dinner? on the home screen. Bestof suggests family staples like tacos, spaghetti and stir fry; tap the ones you can make tonight, or type in your own. If someone can't eat something, leave it off.

  2. Setting up a vote called What's for Dinner? as a Single Winner vote, with five meals.

    2Step 2 of 6

    Start the vote

Keep Single Winner, since you're picking tonight's dinner, and tap Start Hosting.

Planning the week? Choose Top List, rank a Top 5, and you've got Monday to Friday.

  3. The host's room with five people joined: Majestic Akita, Dad, Emma, Leo and Nana.

    3Step 3 of 6

    The family joins

Phones on your home Wi‑Fi find the vote and join with one tap. When everyone's in, tap Start Vote.

Kids without phones? Turn on campfire mode and pass yours around the table. Each turn stays private.

  4. A ballot with Tacos ranked first and Mac and Cheese second, and three meals left to place.

    4Step 4 of 6

    Everyone ranks, in private

Each person taps the meals in order, best first. Nobody sees anyone else's ballot, so nobody gets talked out of their pick.

  5. The reveal: fireworks as Tacos takes first place, over Mac and Cheese in second and Breakfast for Dinner in third.

    5Step 5 of 6

    Reveal dinner

When the last ballot is in, every phone plays the reveal at once: third place, then second, then fireworks for tonight's dinner.

  6. Results for What's for Dinner?, with Tacos winning, Mac and Cheese second, and a consensus meter reading Close call.

    6Step 6 of 6

    See why it won

Mac and Cheese got the most first picks, but Tacos was high on everyone's list, so it's the dinner nobody pushes around the plate. No more “I don't know, what do you want?”

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Something else? Email [email protected].

Can we plan dinners for the whole week?
Yes. Make it a Top List and rank a Top 5. Bestof combines everyone's ballots into one list.
What if someone can't eat something?
Leave it off the ballot. It's easier to drop a meal before the vote than to hope it loses.
Do the kids need phones?
No. In campfire mode, one phone goes around the table and each person ranks in private.
Is Bestof free?
Free for up to 5 people, including the host, voting in the same room or in campfire mode. Bestof Unlocked raises that to 32 people and adds voting over the internet.
